A message from our commander, Captain Kevin L. Barstow, Sr.

Welcome Aboard

Welcome to Cape May County Composite Squadron of the New Jersey Wing, Civil Air Patrol. CAP is a national, benevolent, nonprofit organization with over 62,000 members, and Civil Air Patrol is the Official Auxiliary of the United States Air Force. The Cape May Squadron consists of Senior Members who must be over twenty-one years old, and Cadets, who are between twelve and twenty-one years old. Our members come from all walks of life and most have an interest in aviation, emergency services, and enjoy helping our cadets become leaders of tomorrow.

Civil Air Patrol has three missions....Cadet Programs, Emergency Services and Aerospace Education. As a result of September 11, 2001, we are now involved with Homeland Security missions for America as well.

Aerospace Education educates cadets and senior members in the fundamentals of aviation and provides opportunities for all members to earn an FAA Pilots License. CAP offers educators for middle and high schools, books, materials, and age specific curriculum to help support aerospace education to the public. CAP also provides initial and ongoing proficiency and safety training for our aircrews.

The Cadet Program provides motivated teenagers with leadership, aerospace, physical and moral training with the opportunity to acquire skills they will need in their adult lives. The Cadet Program is run mainly by the cadets and includes all three missions as well as the opportunity to compete for college and aviation scholarships.

Emergency Services provides ground and air search and rescue as well as statewide communications training. Civil Air Patrol has an extensive network nationwide consisting of aerial, fixed base, mobile and repeater systems. Participating in emergency services is challenging and demanding. Searching for Electronic Locator Beacons, Downed Aircraft, Disaster Relief are types of missions CAP are assigned by the United States Air Force.

Homeland Security missions as assigned by the Homeland Security Department consist of ground and airborne security missions  of a sensitive nature throughout the state.

Civil Air Patrol offers numerous training opportunities for all members in specialties such as communications, aerospace education, emergency services, supply, logistics, and many more.

For more information about Civil Air Patrol, please visit our website and feel free to look around, or consult our recruiting officer at the squadron. We meet on Thursday nights at 7PM at the Terminal Building, 2nd floor, of the Cape May County Airport.

Thank you for your interest in Civil Air Patrol.
